Spencer Craven
Lead Carpenter
What inspired you to pursue a career in kitchen and bath remodeling?
Didn’t have the body to model. Haha. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands and I spent many years in a cabinet shop. I decided I wanted to see those cabinets in the kitchens and bathrooms I was building them for, so I started installing them. This lead me to wanting to see the entire project, from start to finish, not just the cabinet building and installation portion. Which brought me to Callier & Thompson.
What are a few of your favorite things?
Besides my wife and kids, making people laugh and enjoy themselves more. I love golf, and I never miss an NFL game, all day on Sunday, Monday Night Football, and Thursday Night Football.
Do you have family or pets?
I have a wife, Madison, and we have 3 beautiful kids: Brady, Annabelle, and Benjamin. Also our wonderful dog Tilly.
What do you do for fun in your spare time?
Golf, BBQ, and Drink beers on the back deck with friends and family. I love to socialize and kick back.
What’s your favorite tradition or holiday and why?
We love Christmas at our house, the music, the movies, the decorating. We go cut down a real tree every year, and spend the afternoon decorating it with ornaments we’ve collected as a family through the years.
What is your favorite thing to do in St. Louis?
I love going to Cardinals games. The atmosphere, the smells and sounds of the ballpark, you just can’t beat it.
How long have you been in the kitchen and bath industry?
15 years now.
What’s one interesting fact about kitchen and bath remodeling that most people might not know?
You really can’t do-it-yourself. Seriously, your friends might tell you that you can, YouTube might tell you, and HGTV might tell you, you might tell yourself you can, but you can’t. Hire a professional. It’s safer, and it will get done properly. You’ll end up spending more money paying a professional to fix something you may have messed up, than if you just paid the professional to do the project to begin with. Trust the professionals, trust the process.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t take life too seriously, you’ll never get out alive. -Van Wilder
