Kitchen Trends: Modern Rustic Farmhouse
One of the biggest style trends at this year’s KBIS (the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show) was rustic chic. This trend works especially well for kitchens, since they’re the warm, heart of the home. Materials that dominate this trend include wood beams, knotty cabinetry, stone elements, heavy metals and earthy tones (not necessarily all at once). Designs often feature open shelving and revolve around a large island or kitchen table. The trick to achieving this trend is to balance the rustic elements with luxe or more sophisticated touches, like brass door pulls or a knotty cabinet topped with Carrara marble counters.
One of our own projects that really rocks the rustic look is this St. Louis kitchen that features rustic cabinetry, a stone range hood and wood ceiling beams. The rustic farmhouse elements are then elevated by high end appliances, granite countertops and glass front doors.
